The Concept of Team

One reason I believe the NFL will grow whiter over time is that whites are better able than blacks to grasp the concept of team. There is only one team in the NFL that actually plays as a team - that is New England. That is because of Bill Belichick. He recognizes that if you have the right system and process, then all you need are able players who buy into the concept - or at least buy in that if they don't do what they're supposed to, they'll be fired. "Just so you know," as Bill Parcells said to a fat black, "if you do that again, you're going home."

Whites grasp the need to put the team ahead of themselves - far more than blacks do. It's a manifestation of their higher mental ceiling. If each man on the team does his job, and "do your job" is Belichick's mantra, then the team will win, and all will reap the individual awards of that winning.

This is obvious in one sense - but the other NFL teams aren't truly teams. They are collections of individuals wearing the same outfits. You can see a marked difference in how New England plays. They look trained, like a circus troupe, whereas other teams are just running plays. It's not all on the other teams' players, either. They struggle with coaches who don't have a good system and process. In the end, they try to do what they can. And since the average career is only 3-4 years, they must make all the money they can in a short space, the vast majority. And that means worrying about individual stats, since that's what contracts are based on. So there are always, in the NFL, all these conflicting incentives. It takes a hard head, a real master, to coordinate all these considerations and get everyone pointed in same direction. Belichick obviously knows not just the right system on the field, and the right process to get the right talent, he knows how to get the players to get their heads right. The rest of the league are able to get a few players and plays here and there, but nothing that truly coheres over time. This is why NE alone has been a major power for a decade and a half, while the rest of the teams come and go. And a part of Belichick's thinking is certainly the realization is that it's significantly easier to install the team mentality in whites than in blacks.
